A premiere at the 100th anniversary: MERIDA enters the arena at the Tour de France

The timing could not have been any better: Right on time for the Tour de France’s big show – its 100th anniversary – MERIDA enters the arena of the most important stage race in the world of cycling, making its debut as one of the two main sponsors and supplier of TEAM LAMPRE-MERIDA.

From June 29th to July 21st 2013 and bridging a distance of more than 3400 kilometers, the team built around captain Damiano Cunego and riding MERIDA bicycles is going to make sure that the jerseys sporting a conspicuous blue, fuchsia and green colour combination will have the best visibility possible in the peloton.TEAM LAMPRE-MERIDA will have nine riders and 14 staff members busy at the „Grande Boucle“, and a total of 40 MERIDA bicycles are going to be raced throughout the three-week stage race. Apart from the very comfortable and quick-accelerating all-rounder SCULTURA SL, the pro riders will choose the aerodynamically refined REACTO EVO for stages that offer opportunities for attacks. For the time trial stages, the WARP TT as MERIDA’s fastest bicycle is at hand to beat both the wind and the clock (direct links to all these models can be found below this media release).

With the team’s captain Damiano Cunego, MERIDA can rely on an experienced professional at the 100th Tour de France, and the Italian has set his eyes on winning a stage and fighting for a good result in the overall standings as well. The captain is going to be supported by Przemyslaw Niemiec and José Serpa, two support riders who excel in the mountains. After having finished the Giro d’Italia in 6th place in the overall standings, Niemiec is expected to be a key support for his captain.

As for the time trials, TEAM LAMPRE-MERIDAalso has reasons to aim for top results: Aboard his excellent WARP TT, world-class time trialist Adriano Malori hopes to put his mark. And with sprinter Roberto Ferrari, the team has an ace up its sleeve at the 100th Tour de France that might be a candidate for a surprise success.
